African Black Soap: The Stunningly Raw Benefits

African black soap has played a vital role in many skincare regiemes. From providing a deep facial cleanse to soothing skin irritation, African black soap has numerous reasons as to why it is a fan favourite. Black soap is made from harvested African plants, such as raw shea butter cocoa pod, and originated in West Africa.

The beauty in African black soap is that it is handmade with ingredients that help to remove dead cells and is safe for all skin types. Though the name is “black” soap, the colour varies from light brown to black depending on the ingredients used, but the ash colour comes from the sun-dried plantain leaves.

You may get excited when seeing black soap in your local drug store, but is it authentic? Surely the difference in traditional black soap is it is soft, has no artificial fragrances, and colour variation.

How to store black soap

To preserve your black soap (bar form), keep it in its packaging when not in use. Be sure to store in a cool, dry place because your soap can dissolve in moisture, shortening your shelf life. Ziplock bags and Tupperware will become your absolute best friends. When storing your soap in the shower, make sure to dump out any extra water from your soap dish. The beauty in African black soap is that there is no expiration date, so you always want to ensure that it is stored properly.
